What is Inclusion?
Inclusion is a feeling, sure. Specifically, it’s the feeling of being accepted, recognized, and valued for who you authentically are. The word “authentically” is really important here. It means that you don’t have to pretend to be someone that you’re not, in order to fit in.
Inclusion may feel like a concept that you first heard about when you entered the workforce, but anyone who’s ever set foot on a school playground knows about all the pressure to fit in, and the consequences of being excluded.
Sadly, our society is likely entering a period of time when it’s going to harder for a lot of folks to feel included, and therefore safe. Workplaces are going to have to respond to these external events, if they want their employees to continue to be engaged and productive. We are facing a crisis of inclusion, and it will be important to be prepared. I’d love to help you weather the oncoming storm. Drop me a line if you’d like to chat.
